Fuji Oil: Cost-effective and resource-friendly ice condensation

The Fuji Oil Group is one of the world’s leading edible oil manufacturers. Some 14 years ago they decided to convert the existing traditional vacuum systems for edible oil production to Körting ICE condensation vacuum systems. The goal of this in-depth modernisation process is to achieve more environment-friendly and more effective production and therefore substantial cost savings.

The Fuji Oil Group was founded in Japan in the 1950s. At the time the company’s philosophy was to produce high-quality, healthy food based on edible oil. They chose Körting technology early on in order to achieve this top quality. Traditional vacuum systems from Hanover went into operation for edible oil production. Some 14 years ago the Group decided to replace the existing equipment with Körting ICE Condensation Vacuum Systems. These systems operate on the basis of dry condensation, are more environmental-friendly and cut overheads substantially. Decision makers at the Fuji Oil Group were quickly impressed by these systems’ performance. Commissioning of the first one took place for the Group’s subsidiary Palmaju Edible Oil SDN. BHD in Malaysia. After a short time in operation, Palmaju realised that the ice condensation vacuum system had quickly provided a return on investment. The much lower overheads swiftly compensated for investment costs. Furthermore, they were delighted with the savings potential of the new systems compared with the old ones.


The Körting ICE condensation vacuum systems are in operation 24/7 carrying out deodorisation. This is the vital step in the process of turning the untreated, pressed edible oil into a consumer product. In this purification process the systems generate and maintain the vacuum necessary. The condensation of the sparging steam is carried out at a pressure of 1 to 3 mbar and at a temperature of between -20 °C and -10 °C. The process and the cooling medium are strictly segregated from one another. Media that intermingle do no harm to the environment. Compared with other vacuum systems, the coolant compressor required here operates more efficiently than comparable steam jets. The expensive production of steam for motive flow in the jet ejectors is almost completely unnecessary in this case. Ice condensation vacuum systems are reliable, save resources and therefore cut overheads. They use energy and water sparingly, produce little waste water and air pollution. Two special ice condensers enable constant operation of the system without any cyclical downtime. These are advantages that boost production for operators.

Full conversion at Fuji Oil

Körting’s customer Fuji Oil quickly realised that all traditional vacuum systems needed to be converted to ice condensation vacuum systems. The last system in the modernisation process at Fuji Oil went into operation at the end of 2014. The systems manufactured in the Hanover plant are made of stainless steel and therefore protected from corrosion caused by the processing media.

They were shipped in containers to places all over the world. The systems were then assembled and commissioned by Körting service engineers on site. Local Körting staff is on hand should the customer need support. These systems’ reliability and long service lives are also some of the key benefits of high-quality manufacturing from Germany.
